A. Outlining and Initial Estimate Phase
The first step is speaking to an experienced contractor at Shepard Custom Cabinets about what you want from your custom cabinetry. Sending us your room dimensions, either via drawings or architectural blueprints, is a great place to begin. Once we have determined the scope of the work required, we can give you a cost estimate. This will start the planning phase. We can help you make the final decisions about what you want.
B. Design Details & Consultation
After doing our initial due diligence and providing an estimate to you, we will begin the design and consultation phase. We will communicate with you via email and phone, and we will need to visit the site in order to take final measurements. This is where we finalize the design plans and estimate the time it will take to complete the project. We also create a complete list of supplies. At the end of this phase we will know the cost of the project.
C. Exact Drawings and Deposit Payment
During this step we will produce a payment schedule and give you ample notice for any upcoming payments. The payment schedule corresponds to the next phases of the project, including final plans, cabinet fabrication, as well as the final building.
Once the planning phase is done your project will be placed into our schedule as soon as the down payment is paid. At this point we will have a set of drawings that will contain the exact measurements and required materials. One of the main reasons we have opted for these processes is due to the challenges that arise from changes once the fabrication starts. Once your give us the word, we being to fabricate your cabinets.
D. Building the Cabinets and Onsite Installation
This is where all the pieces fall together. We start building and crafting your cabinets at our location in Anaheim. Once the fabrication phase is completed, we will transport everything to your property for the final installation. When the entire project is completed, the final deposit is due. This usually takes between 4 and 8 weeks. Custom cabinets are made to order so the turnaround time will vary depending on the style and number of pieces you choose, as well as the labor time required for each piece.
Different styles of cabinet doors
It is crucial to choose the right cabinet door as it is the most prominent part of your cabinet. When choosing a cabinet door there are two classifications that will affect how your cabinet looks overall, the way that the door style, and how the door is attached to the cabinet frame. Each of these factors will impact the character of your cabinet.
Cabinet Door Attachments
Full-overlay cabinet doors completely cover the cabinet’s front and provide more storage space. This one-continuous low profile surface is very popular today because the cabinet frame is covered in 100 percent.
Cabinets with inset doors have their door built into the frame and sit flush when closed. Sometimes you may see the hinges attached to an outside surface. This requires precision during fabrication.
Partial overlay cabinets show much more of the cabinet frame, with about 1″ to 2″ of the frame exposed.
The Differences between Cabinet Door Styles
The recessed panel door gives the cabinet a sleek, streamlined look. This design is popular in contemporary cabinets and offers many design options.
Frameless glass front cabinets have a single glass pane, but no dividing mullions.
Mullion frame doors have horizontal and vertical bars that break down the cabinet’s face into sections. The glass inserts in the panes and sections allow you to see the interior of each cabinet.
Cabinets with raised panel doors feature a central panel that is elevated and surrounded by a recessed border. Raised panel doors are very popular and can be found on all types of cabinets, from classic to modern.
The slab cabinet door, or flat-panel door, is simply a single slab of lumber and is totally flat.
Handcrafted Bath Cabinets and Custom Vanities
A well-designed bathroom can make a big difference in your quality of living. You can also add custom bath cabinets to enhance the look and increase the storage space. While you are brainstorming the design for your custom vanities and cabinets, you should write a list of all your storage needs. Do you need the space for makeup application built into your vanity? Do you have an abundance of items in your bathroom, and would love to have as much storage space as possible? Do you need cabinet space to store your towels? After you have identified your needs, an expert cabinet maker at Shepard Custom Cabinets will help you design the perfect design.
To make the most of your space and renovate your bathroom, you can install a custom-made vanity. You can make your bathroom more functional and beautiful by creating storage solutions that are both creative and functional. You will feel calm and relaxed after a hectic day.

Stains and finishes
You can add character to your cabinet doors by choosing a finish. A finish is used to treat the surface of the cabinet to give it a desirable characteristics, such as improved protection, and alterations of it’s color and texture.
Waterborne finishes are used to add protection against scratches and damage, and it is non toxic to the environment. Waterborne finishes are fast drying and can mirror the look of many other stains and finishes. If you like patterns of grains of your piece of wood and want to change the color, it is great choice.
Glaze finishes can add texture and color to your cabinets’ surfaces. They can be applied directly on top of stained or painted cabinets. Glazing cabinets can give them a shiny look.
